How to Login to Your Xiaomi Router

Xiaomi routers use 192.168.31.1 as the default IP address. You can also type miwifi.com in your browser’s address bar. Both reach the same admin panel. Make sure you are connected to the Xiaomi router’s Wi-Fi or plugged into one of its LAN ports before attempting to access the interface.

The login page shows a single password field. Enter the admin password you created during initial setup. Xiaomi routers do not use a username field for login. If you chose to sync your Wi-Fi password and admin password during setup, enter your Wi-Fi password here.

After logging in, the dashboard displays internet status, speed metrics, connected device count, and quick links to common settings. The interface uses a flat design with blue accents that may vary slightly between firmware versions.

If the router has never been configured, the browser redirects to the setup wizard automatically. You will not see a login page until setup is complete.

Unlike brands that ship with admin/admin defaults, every Xiaomi router forces you to create credentials during first setup, which is more secure out of the box.

Setting Up a Xiaomi Router

Connect the WAN port (marked Internet or WAN) to your modem using an Ethernet cable. Plug in the power adapter. The LED indicator turns orange during boot, then turns blue when ready. Wait about 90 seconds.

Connect to the default Wi-Fi network. The SSID is printed on the bottom label, usually formatted as Xiaomi_XXXX or Redmi_XXXX. There is no Wi-Fi password on first boot, so the network is open temporarily.

You have two setup options:

Option A: Browser setup. Open a browser and go to 192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com. The wizard launches. Select your region, and the router auto-detects your internet connection type. For PPPoE connections, enter your ISP credentials. Set your Wi-Fi name and password, then create an admin password. You can check the box to use the same password for both.

Option B: Mi WiFi app setup. Download the Mi WiFi app (iOS or Android). The app detects the new router automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts for the same configuration options in a mobile-friendly flow.

Changing Your Xiaomi Wi-Fi Password

Log into your router at 192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com. Go to Wi-Fi Settings from the top navigation bar. You will see separate sections for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

Enter a strong password using at least 8 characters with a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Set the encryption to WPA2-PSK or WPA3-SAE.

Through the Mi WiFi app, tap your router name and go to Wi-Fi Settings to change the password directly from your phone.

Xiaomi Mesh WiFi Setup

The Xiaomi Mesh System AX3000 and similar mesh-capable models create a unified network across multiple units. The primary unit connects to your modem. Additional units (satellites) pair wirelessly or via Ethernet backhaul.

To add a mesh node, place the satellite unit within 5 meters of the primary router during initial pairing. Power on the satellite. On the primary router’s admin panel at 192.168.31.1, go to Mesh Networking and click Add Device. The primary router discovers the satellite within 60 seconds. Click Add to pair them.

Once paired, move the satellite to its intended location. Keep it within reasonable range of the primary unit for a strong wireless backhaul connection. The mesh network shares one SSID across all nodes. Devices roam between nodes automatically as you move around your home.

For wired backhaul, connect an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on the primary router to the WAN port on the satellite. The system detects the wired connection automatically, providing faster and more reliable inter-node communication.

Troubleshooting Xiaomi Router Login

1. Cannot reach 192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com. Verify you are connected to the Xiaomi router’s network. Run ipconfig (Windows) or ifconfig (macOS) and check that your default gateway is 192.168.31.1. If you see a different gateway, you are on the wrong network. If miwifi.com fails but the IP works, your DNS provider is not resolving the local alias. Use the IP directly.

2. Forgot the admin password. Xiaomi routers do not have a password recovery option. You must factory reset the router by holding the reset button for 10 seconds. After reset, the router returns to the setup wizard where you create a new admin password. All settings are erased.

3. Setup wizard does not appear. If the router was previously configured by someone else, it will not show the wizard. Try logging in with any password that might have been set. If that fails, factory reset the router to trigger the setup wizard again.

4. Slow or unresponsive admin interface. Try a different browser or clear your cache. Disable browser extensions that block JavaScript, as the Xiaomi admin panel relies on it for rendering. You can also use the Mi WiFi app as an alternative.
