Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co Ltd is a surveillance technology company headquartered in Hangzhou, China. The company dominates the global CCTV and video surveillance market, but it also manufactures a small range of WiFi routers under the DS-3WR product series. These routers are designed primarily for users already invested in the Hikvision security ecosystem who want a single vendor for both cameras and networking.

How to Login to Your Hikvision Router

Hikvision routers use 192.168.0.1 as the default IP address. Open a browser on any device connected to the Hikvision network and type this address in the URL bar. You can also use the branded login URL hikvisionwifi.local, which resolves to the same admin panel.

The login page asks for a username and password. Enter admin for both fields. These are the factory default credentials on all DS-3WR series models. After logging in, you reach a dashboard that displays internet connection status, connected devices, and wireless settings.

All models share the same default IP address of 192.168.0.1 and admin/admin credentials. The DS-3WR series follows Hikvision naming conventions used across their surveillance product lines, where DS indicates a digital series device.

Setting Up a Hikvision Router

Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem or ONT to the WAN port on the Hikvision router. Plug in the power adapter and wait approximately 90 seconds for the system indicator to turn solid.

Connect to the default WiFi network. Hikvision routers broadcast an SSID that typically starts with Hikvision or DS followed by model identifiers. The default WiFi password is printed on the label on the bottom of the device.

Open a browser and go to 192.168.0.1 or hikvisionwifi.local. The setup wizard detects your internet connection type automatically. For most broadband connections, DHCP is selected by default. If your ISP uses PPPoE (common with DSL and some fiber providers), enter the username and password supplied by your provider.

Set a new WiFi name and password. Select WPA2-PSK as the security mode. Save the settings and reconnect to the network using the new credentials.

Hik-Connect Integration and App Management

The Hik-Connect mobile app serves as the primary management tool for the full range of Hikvision products. Download Hik-Connect from the App Store or Google Play and create an account or sign in with existing Hikvision credentials.

Add your router by tapping the plus icon and scanning the QR code on the device label. Once added, the app displays network status, connected clients, and bandwidth usage. Users who already manage Hikvision cameras through Hik-Connect will find the router listed alongside their surveillance equipment on the same dashboard.

The app allows basic configuration changes including WiFi password updates, guest network toggling, and firmware update checks. For advanced settings such as port forwarding, static routing, and LAN configuration, use the web admin panel at 192.168.0.1. The Hik-Connect app does not expose all configuration options available through the browser interface.

Changing Your Hikvision WiFi Password

Log into the admin panel at 192.168.0.1 or hikvisionwifi.local. Go to the Wireless Settings section in the left menu.

Locate the password field under the wireless security settings. Enter a new password with at least 8 characters. Keep the encryption mode set to WPA2-PSK for compatibility with most devices. Save the changes.

You can also update the WiFi password from the Hik-Connect app under your router’s device settings. The change takes effect on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously on dual-band models like the DS-3WR12C.

Troubleshooting Hikvision Router Issues

1. Cannot reach 192.168.0.1 or hikvisionwifi.local. Confirm your device is connected to the Hikvision network. If hikvisionwifi.local does not resolve, use the IP address directly. The branded URL relies on local DNS and may not work if you have set custom DNS servers on your device. Try a different browser or clear your cache.

2. Default password admin does not work. Someone has changed the password from the factory default. Check the device label for any ISP-modified credentials. If no alternative password is available, perform a factory reset by holding the reset button for 10 seconds. This restores admin/admin but erases all custom settings.

3. Router firmware is in Chinese only. Some DS-3WR models ship with Chinese-language firmware that does not include English. Check the Hikvision support site for firmware updates that may include additional language packs. Models ending in -E typically indicate an international variant with English support.

4. WiFi signal is weak in parts of the house. Hikvision routers are basic networking devices without mesh or range extender capabilities. Move the router to a central location. For larger coverage areas, consider adding a standalone WiFi extender. The DS-3WR series routers do not support mesh networking or wireless bridging with other Hikvision units.

5. Hik-Connect app cannot find the router. Ensure your phone is connected to the same network as the router. The QR code on the device label must be scanned during the pairing process. If the code is damaged, enter the device serial number manually in the app. Verify the router firmware is updated to the latest version, as older firmware versions may not support app pairing.
