Actiontec Router Login

192.168.1.1

Actiontec Electronics Inc was a networking equipment manufacturer based in Santa Clara, California, that produced broadband gateways exclusively for internet service providers. Actiontec devices are not sold at retail. The MI424WR was the standard gateway for Verizon FiOS for many years, using 192.168.1.1 as the default IP address. CenturyLink deployed the C1000A and C3000A models, while Telus used the T2200H. The company is now part of VNPT Technology. Default credentials are typically admin/password, though ISPs often print unique passwords on each device label.

Actiontec Electronics Inc, based in Santa Clara, California, manufactured broadband gateways for internet service providers across North America. The company never sold through retail channels. Actiontec is now part of VNPT Technology, but millions of its gateways remain active on Verizon, CenturyLink, and Telus networks.

How to Login to Your Actiontec Router

Actiontec routers use different default IP addresses depending on the ISP. Verizon FiOS MI424WR gateways use 192.168.1.1. CenturyLink C1000A and C3000A models use 192.168.0.1. Telus T2200H units default to 192.168.1.254. Check the label on the bottom of your device for the correct IP address.

Open a browser on any device connected to the Actiontec network and type the appropriate IP address in the address bar. The login page displays username and password fields. Enter admin as the username and password as the password. On ISP-provisioned units, the password may be unique and printed on the device label.

After logging in, the admin panel shows internet connection status, Wi-Fi settings, and connected devices. The interface layout varies between ISP firmware versions.

Setting Up an Actiontec Router

Actiontec gateways arrive pre-configured by the ISP. Manual setup is only needed after a factory reset or if the device was not provisioned before delivery.

For FiOS models, connect the coaxial cable to the MoCA/WAN coax port. For DSL models like the C1000A, connect the phone line to the DSL port. Connect the power adapter and wait 3-5 minutes for all LEDs to stabilize. The WAN or broadband LED should turn solid green.

Step 1: Connect a computer to a LAN port on the Actiontec device via Ethernet cable or connect to the default Wi-Fi network printed on the label.

Step 2: Open a browser and go to the IP address on the device label (192.168.1.1 for FiOS, 192.168.0.1 for CenturyLink).

Step 3: Log in with the credentials on the device label. If no label is present, try admin/password.

Step 4: If the internet does not connect automatically, go to the WAN or broadband settings. For CenturyLink DSL, enter the PPPoE credentials from your ISP welcome letter. FiOS connections use DHCP over MoCA and should connect automatically.

Step 5: Customize the Wi-Fi network name and password. The default SSID and password from the label are functional but should be changed for security.

Changing Your Actiontec Wi-Fi Password

Log into the admin panel at the appropriate IP address. Go to Wireless Settings or Wi-Fi Setup depending on your firmware version.

On FiOS MI424WR models, go to My Network > Wireless Settings > Basic Security Settings. On CenturyLink C1000A/C3000A models, go to Wireless Setup > Security.

Change the WPA Pre-Shared Key to a new password of at least 8 characters. Select WPA2-PSK as the security mode. Click Apply. The wireless radio restarts and disconnects all devices. Reconnect with the new password. See the factory reset guide if you need to start over.

MoCA Backhaul on Actiontec FiOS Gateways

The MI424WR was purpose-built for Verizon FiOS and includes MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) technology, which is a key differentiator from standard broadband gateways.

Coaxial network backbone. MoCA uses existing coaxial cable wiring in the home to create a high-speed wired network. This is more reliable than Wi-Fi for connecting FiOS set-top boxes and DVRs. The MI424WR bridges the Ethernet LAN and MoCA network automatically.

FiOS ONT connection. The Verizon FiOS optical network terminal (ONT) connects to the MI424WR via coaxial cable rather than Ethernet on older installations. This coax-based WAN connection uses MoCA to deliver internet service from the ONT to the gateway.

Multiple hardware revisions. The MI424WR went through four hardware revisions (Rev. D, E, F, and I). Rev. I is the final and most capable version with improved wireless performance and MoCA throughput.

Using your own router. You can request Verizon to switch the ONT output from coax to Ethernet, then connect your own router directly to the ONT. However, FiOS TV service requires MoCA, so you may need a separate MoCA adapter if you remove the MI424WR.

Troubleshooting Actiontec Router Login

  1. Cannot reach the login page. Verify which IP address your model uses: 192.168.1.1 for FiOS, 192.168.0.1 for CenturyLink, 192.168.1.254 for Telus. Connect directly to a LAN port via Ethernet. If you have your own router behind the Actiontec, you may be on the wrong subnet.

  2. Admin password rejected. Try admin/password first. If that fails, check the device label for a unique ISP-printed password. Contact your ISP for the correct credentials. A factory reset restores the default password but may require ISP re-provisioning for the internet connection to resume.

  3. FiOS coax WAN LED is off. Check both ends of the coax connection. Verify the ONT is powered on with a solid green LED. If the ONT lost power, the battery backup may have drained. Contact Verizon FiOS support to check ONT status remotely.

  4. Wi-Fi range is poor. Actiontec gateways use internal antennas with modest wireless performance. The MI424WR and C1000A were not designed for large homes. Place the device in a central location. For better coverage, consider adding a dedicated wireless access point or mesh system connected to a LAN port on the Actiontec device.

  5. DSL sync drops frequently on CenturyLink models. Check the DSL diagnostics page for SNR margin and line attenuation values. Ensure DSL filters are installed on all phone jacks. If sync drops during rain or temperature changes, contact CenturyLink for a technician visit to inspect physical wiring.

Actiontec Router FAQ

What is the default IP address for Actiontec routers?

Actiontec routers use different default IPs depending on the ISP. Verizon FiOS models like the MI424WR use 192.168.1.1. CenturyLink models like the C1000A use 192.168.0.1. Telus models use 192.168.1.254. Check the label on your device for the correct IP address.

What is the default Actiontec router password?

The most common default is admin for the username and password for the password. However, many ISP-deployed Actiontec devices have a unique password printed on the label. Verizon FiOS MI424WR units typically use admin/password. CenturyLink C1000A units may have a unique password on the label.

Is Actiontec still in business?

Actiontec Electronics Inc has been acquired and is now part of VNPT Technology. The Actiontec brand name is no longer active for new products. However, millions of Actiontec devices remain in service with ISPs like Verizon, CenturyLink, and Telus. Replacement parts and support are handled by the respective ISPs.

How do I reset an Actiontec router to factory settings?

Press and hold the reset button on the back of the device for 10-15 seconds until the LEDs flash. Release and wait 2-3 minutes for the reboot. Factory reset restores default credentials but may erase ISP provisioning. Contact your ISP before resetting if you are unsure whether the device can be re-provisioned remotely.

What is MoCA on an Actiontec router?

MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) is a technology that uses existing coaxial cable wiring to create a wired network backbone. Verizon FiOS Actiontec gateways like the MI424WR include a MoCA port that connects to the FiOS network over coax. This provides a more reliable connection than Wi-Fi for set-top boxes and other FiOS equipment.

Which Actiontec router models are most common?

The MI424WR (Verizon FiOS, 4 hardware revisions), C1000A (CenturyLink, VDSL2), C3000A (CenturyLink, bonded VDSL2), T2200H (Telus, VDSL2), and GT784WN (Windstream/CenturyLink, ADSL2+) are the most widely deployed models.
