Malaysia Huawei, ZTE

Yes (by YTL Communications) offers 5G Wireless Fibre broadband and 4G LTE plans across Malaysia. Current devices include the Yes 5G Infinite Gateway, Infinite Gateway Pro, and Infinite Gateway Max. This guide covers login, setup, and signal optimization.

How to Login to Your Yes Router

Yes 5G, operated by YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, supplies 5G CPE devices under the Infinite Gateway brand for their Wireless Fibre 5G plans, plus legacy Huawei and ZTE hardware on older subscriptions. The login process depends on which device you have.

For Huawei CPE devices (B535, H122, etc.): Connect to the Yes Wi-Fi network or plug a cable into one of the LAN ports. Open a browser and go to 192.168.8.1. Username is admin. The password is either admin or the Wi-Fi key printed on the device label.

For ZTE CPE devices (MC801A, MC888): Connect and go to 192.168.1.1. The default IP address is printed on the device label. Username and password are both admin.

The admin dashboard shows your connection status, signal strength, connected devices, and data usage. This is where you’ll manage all your settings.

The Infinite Gateway devices are Yes-branded 5G CPE routers supplied free with Wireless Fibre 5G plans starting from RM58/month. The Infinite Gateway Max is the premium model with WiFi 6E support. All three models share the same 192.168.8.1 admin interface with credentials printed on the device label.

Legacy Huawei and ZTE devices remain active on older subscriptions. The Huawei H122-373 has external antenna ports (2x TS-9) for signal improvement. The ZTE MC801A runs hot, so keep it on a flat surface with airflow. The Yes ZOOM is a portable 4G hotspot with 8-hour battery life for plans from RM68 to RM148/month (70-200GB data).

Changing Your Yes Wi-Fi Password

Yes 4G/5G subscribers can update Wi-Fi credentials through the CPE admin panel.

On Huawei devices:

Log in at 192.168.8.1. Click Wi-Fi Settings on the main page (or go to Settings > WLAN). Change the Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Wi-Fi Password fields. Click Save.

Huawei CPE devices broadcast a single combined 2.4/5GHz network by default. The device automatically steers clients to the best band. You can split them into separate SSIDs in Advanced Wi-Fi Settings if you prefer manual control.

On ZTE devices:

Log in at 192.168.1.1. Go to Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi SSID. Change the name and password for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Click Apply.

Use WPA2 or WPA3 encryption. Set a password of at least 12 characters. Our Wi-Fi password guide has tips on creating strong passwords.

Optimizing Your Yes 4G/5G Signal

Yes 4G/5G performance depends almost entirely on signal quality. A few dB difference can mean 50Mbps vs 200Mbps.

Placement basics: Higher is better. Window-facing is better. Concrete walls and metal structures kill signal. The ideal spot is on a table near a window, on the highest floor of your home.

Reading signal metrics: Log in to your CPE admin page and find the signal information section. Key numbers:

  • RSRP (signal power): Above -80 dBm is excellent. -80 to -90 is good. -90 to -100 is okay. Below -100 is poor.
  • RSRQ (signal quality): Above -10 is good. Below -15 is poor.
  • SINR (signal-to-noise): Above 10 is good. Below 5 means heavy interference.

External antennas: The Huawei B535, B818, and H122 have TS-9 antenna ports. A directional panel antenna (RM50-100 on Shopee/Lazada) pointed at the nearest tower can improve RSRP by 5-15 dB. That translates to a big jump in real-world speeds.

Finding towers: Use the OpenSignal or CellMapper apps to find the nearest Yes/YTL tower. Point your CPE or external antenna toward it.

Troubleshooting Yes Connection Issues

Here are the most common Yes 4G/5G router problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Try both 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.8.1. Check the IP address on the device label. Make sure you are connected to the Yes Wi-Fi, not mobile data. If neither IP works, reset the device using the pinhole button on the back or bottom. Hold for 10-15 seconds with power on.

  2. No internet connection. Check that the SIM card is properly inserted. On some CPE devices, you need to push the SIM tray firmly until it clicks. Restart the device. If the admin page shows “No SIM” or “SIM Error”, re-seat the SIM card.

  3. Registered on 4G instead of 5G. Yes 5G coverage is still expanding. Your CPE may fall back to 4G in areas with weak 5G signal. Check the admin page for the current network mode. You can force 5G-only mode in the network settings, but this may cause no connection at all if 5G coverage is too weak at your location.

  4. Speeds much slower than expected. Check if you have hit your fair usage threshold. Yes applies speed reduction after the data cap on some plans. Also check the time of day. Tower congestion during peak hours (8-11PM) is real and can cut speeds significantly.

  5. Device overheating. The ZTE MC801A especially runs warm. Keep it in a ventilated spot. If it overheats, it throttles performance or restarts. Some users prop it up vertically or add a small USB fan pointed at it. Do not place it in direct sunlight.

Yes Router FAQ

What is the default IP for Yes router?

Yes home broadband devices use either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.8.1 depending on the model. Huawei CPE devices typically use 192.168.8.1, while ZTE models use 192.168.1.1. Check the label on your device for the exact address.

What is the default password for Yes router?

Most Yes routers use admin as both username and password. Huawei devices may use a unique password printed on the device label. If admin does not work, look for a sticker with the default Wi-Fi key, as that is sometimes the admin password too.

What are the current Yes 5G broadband plans?

Yes Wireless Fibre 5G plans start from RM58/month with unlimited 5G data and 150GB of 4G LTE fallback. A free Infinite Gateway 5G router is included. The Yes ZOOM 4G plans run from RM68 to RM148/month with 70-200GB data. All plans advertise no speed cap and no data cap, though fair usage policies may apply.

How do I improve my Yes 4G/5G speed?

Place the CPE near a window on the highest floor possible. Point it toward the nearest cell tower. Check signal strength in the admin panel and aim for RSRP above -90 dBm. For Huawei CPE devices with SMA antenna ports, an external antenna can significantly boost speeds.

Can I use Yes 5G as my main home internet?

Yes, many Malaysians use Yes 5G as their primary home broadband, especially in areas without fibre coverage. In strong 5G coverage areas, expect 100-300Mbps speeds. Performance depends heavily on your distance from the tower and building materials.
