XL Home is a 4G/5G fixed wireless broadband service from XL Axiata. Most XL Home routers use 192.168.8.1 as the default gateway with admin as the default credentials. This guide covers login steps and configuration for Huawei CPE devices.

XL Home is a fixed wireless broadband service that delivers internet access over 4G LTE and 5G networks. The service is operated by PT XL Axiata Tbk, one of the three largest mobile operators in Indonesia and a subsidiary of the Axiata Group. Like Telkomsel Orbit, the service uses portable CPE devices with SIM card connectivity, targeting households where fibre coverage remains limited. Coverage is strongest across Java and major cities where the provider’s 4G and 5G towers are concentrated.

How to Login to Your XL Home Router

To access the XL Home CPE admin panel, connect to the device’s Wi-Fi network. The default SSID and Wi-Fi password are printed on the device label. Open a browser and type the IP address 192.168.8.1 in the address bar.

The login page will load. Enter admin as both the username and password. On some Huawei models, the password is unique and printed on the sticker on the bottom of the device.

The provider offers an app for Android and iOS that handles basic management like data usage and Wi-Fi password changes. For advanced settings such as band locking, port forwarding, or DNS configuration, the web admin panel at 192.168.8.1 is necessary.

If the login page does not appear, verify you are on the home Wi-Fi and not mobile data. Type http://192.168.8.1 with the full prefix.

Router Models and Default Settings

The service ships Huawei and ZTE CPE devices with its broadband plans. The model depends on the plan tier and stock availability. Below are the 5 devices currently in circulation.

The Huawei B312-926 is the entry-level device bundled with starter plans, supporting 4G LTE Cat 4 with speeds up to 150 Mbps. Note that the ZTE MF286R uses 192.168.0.1 as its IP address, not 192.168.8.1.

Changing Your Wi-Fi Password

New subscribers should replace the default Wi-Fi password with a stronger one. The default is printed on the device and visible to anyone nearby. The steps below cover the Huawei B312, the most widely distributed model.

Log in at 192.168.8.1 with your admin credentials. Click Wi-Fi Settings or WLAN in the side menu. The current SSID and security settings will be displayed.

Change the SSID to a name you prefer. In the Wi-Fi Key or WPA PreSharedKey field, enter your new password. Use at least 12 characters. Avoid personal details like your phone number.

Click Save or Apply. All connected devices will disconnect. Rejoin the network using the updated credentials.

The XL Home app provides a simpler method for password changes. Open the app, go to Wi-Fi Settings, enter the new password, and save. Our Wi-Fi password change guide covers additional device models in detail.

Using Your Own Router

The CPE device manages the mobile data connection through its SIM slot. You can connect a separate Wi-Fi router behind it for better coverage.

Plug your own router’s WAN port into one of the CPE’s LAN ports using an Ethernet cable. Set your router’s WAN connection type to DHCP (automatic). The CPE assigns an IP address to your router automatically.

Disable Wi-Fi on the CPE to avoid interference. On the Huawei B312, log in at 192.168.8.1, go to Wi-Fi Settings, and toggle the wireless radio off.

Make sure both devices use different IP address ranges. If the CPE uses 192.168.8.x, set your router to 192.168.1.x to prevent conflicts.

Troubleshooting Router Issues

  1. Login page does not load. Confirm you are on the CPE Wi-Fi, not mobile data. Type http://192.168.8.1 with the prefix. For ZTE models, try http://192.168.0.1 instead. Clear browser cache or try a different browser. Reset the router if no address works.

  2. No internet connection. Check that the SIM card is properly inserted. Verify your data plan is active through the app or by dialing *123# on an XL SIM. Move the CPE near a window for stronger signal. Power cycle by unplugging for 30 seconds.

  3. Slow download speeds. Performance depends on 4G signal strength and tower congestion. Lock the CPE to a specific LTE band through the admin panel under Network Settings. Band 3 (1800 MHz) and Band 40 (2300 MHz) generally provide the fastest speeds on the network. Test at different times to identify peak hours, typically 7 PM to 10 PM.

  4. Device displays “No SIM” or “SIM Error.” Power off, remove the SIM card, and reinsert it. Clean the SIM contacts with a dry cloth. Make sure you are using an XL Axiata SIM with an active home broadband plan. Standard prepaid SIMs will not activate the CPE.

  5. Wi-Fi drops or weak signal. The built-in Wi-Fi covers 30 to 50 square meters. Position the device centrally and away from metal objects. Connecting a dedicated router or mesh system to the CPE’s LAN port is the most effective solution for larger homes. Update firmware through System Update to fix known stability issues.
