Xfinity Router Login

10.0.0.1

United States Arris, Technicolor, Cisco

Xfinity is the largest cable internet provider in the United States. Most Xfinity gateways use 10.0.0.1 as the default login address, though some older models use 192.168.1.1. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for all Xfinity-supplied gateway models.

Xfinity is the consumer brand of Comcast Corporation and the largest cable internet provider in the United States, serving over 32 million broadband subscribers. Xfinity delivers internet, TV, and phone services over its hybrid fibre-coaxial network.

How to Login to Your Xfinity Router

Xfinity gateways from Comcast Corporation use 10.0.0.1 as the default login IP address. Connect to your Xfinity network through Wi-Fi or plug an ethernet cable into one of the gateway’s LAN ports. Open a browser and type 10.0.0.1 in the address bar.

Enter admin as the username and password as the password. On newer xFi gateways (XB7, XB8), the credentials may have been set during activation through the Xfinity app. Check the label on the bottom of the device if the defaults do not work.

Some older gateways from Cisco (DPC3941T) and Arris (TG1682G) use 192.168.1.1 instead. If 10.0.0.1 does not load, try that IP address. The sticker on the gateway always has the correct address printed on it.

If the login page still will not load, make sure you are connected to the provider’s network and not your phone’s cellular data. Try typing http://10.0.0.1 with the full prefix.

Xfinity Router Models and Default Settings

The provider has deployed several gateway models over the years. The model you receive depends on your plan tier and region.

Xfinity currently ships the XB7 and XB8 for most new activations. The XB8 supports WiFi 6E and handles multi-gig plans. If you are still on an XB3 or XB6, call the service at 1-800-934-6489 to request an upgrade.

Changing Your Xfinity Wi-Fi Password and Network Name

Subscribers can change Wi-Fi credentials through the admin panel or the Xfinity app. The app method is faster for most people.

Through the app: Open it, tap Internet at the bottom. Tap your network name under WiFi. Tap Edit next to the network name or password. Enter your new values and tap Save.

Through the admin panel: Log in at 10.0.0.1. Go to Gateway > Connection > WiFi. Select either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz network. Change the Network Name (SSID) and Network Password fields. Click Save Settings.

Set your password to at least 12 characters. Avoid using your street address or phone number. After saving, all devices will disconnect. Reconnect each one with the new credentials.

Using Your Own Router with Xfinity

The service charges $14 per month to rent the xFi gateway. You have two options to avoid this fee or improve your network performance.

Option 1: Bridge mode. Keep the gateway as your modem but disable its routing and Wi-Fi functions. Log in at 10.0.0.1, go to Gateway > At a Glance, and enable Bridge Mode. Connect your own router’s WAN port to one of the gateway’s LAN ports. Your router handles all networking from there.

Option 2: Own modem and router. Return the gateway entirely. Purchase a DOCSIS 3.1 modem (Arris SB8200, Motorola MB8611, or Netgear CM1200 are solid picks). Connect your router’s WAN port to the modem’s LAN port. Call the provider to activate your modem using its MAC address.

Bridge mode disables the xFi pods (mesh extenders) and the xFi app management features. If you rely on those, keep the gateway and use bridge mode only if you are comfortable managing your own router.

Troubleshooting Xfinity Router Issues

Here are the most common gateway problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Confirm you are connected to the provider’s network. Disable VPN if active. Try a different browser or open an incognito window. If you enabled bridge mode previously, the admin panel may not be accessible over Wi-Fi. Connect a cable directly to the gateway’s LAN port.

  2. Password rejected. Reset the gateway by pressing the recessed button on the back for 15-20 seconds. This restores factory credentials. You can also reset through the app without touching the device.

  3. Connected but no internet. Unplug the gateway, wait 60 seconds, plug it back in. Wait 5 minutes for the connection to fully restore. These gateways take longer to boot than typical routers because they negotiate the DOCSIS connection with the headend. Check for outages in the app or at xfinity.com/support/status.

  4. Slow Wi-Fi speeds. Run a speed test at speedtest.net using a wired connection. If wired speed is fine but Wi-Fi is slow, move the gateway to a central location. The XB7 and XB8 perform best when placed upright in an open area, not inside a cabinet or behind a TV.

  5. Internet drops frequently. Check for firmware updates in the admin panel. The provider pushes firmware updates automatically, but they sometimes cause temporary instability. Power cycle the gateway by unplugging it for 30 seconds. If drops continue, check the coaxial cable connections and splitters for loose fittings.
