Virgin Media Router Login
192.168.0.1
Virgin Media uses 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway IP address on all Hub models. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for the Virgin Media Hub 3, Hub 4, and Hub 5, plus how to enable modem mode for your own router.
How to Login to Your Virgin Media Hub
Virgin Media, part of Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) under Liberty Global, delivers cable broadband across the United Kingdom. To log in to your Virgin Media Hub, connect to the network through Wi-Fi or a LAN cable plugged into one of the Hub’s LAN ports. Open a browser and type the IP address 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
The admin panel will prompt for a password. Your password is printed on the sticker on the base of the Hub. It is unique to your device. Enter it and click Sign In or Log In depending on your Hub model.
Virgin Media uses cable broadband (DOCSIS) rather than the Openreach network. The Hub acts as both a cable modem and a router, which matters when you switch to modem mode.
Virgin Media Hub Models and Default Settings
Virgin Media has shipped several Hub generations. The hardware is manufactured by Arris, Sagemcom, and other partners under the Liberty Global umbrella, but runs Virgin Media custom firmware.
| Hub Model | Hardware | Default IP | DOCSIS | Wi-Fi Standard |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hub 3 | Arris TG2492 | 192.168.0.1 | 3.0 | Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) |
| Hub 4 | Sagemcom F@st 5690 | 192.168.0.1 | 3.1 | Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) |
| Hub 5 | Sagemcom (2023+) | 192.168.0.1 | 3.1 | Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) |
| Hub 3.0 (Business) | Arris TG2492 | 192.168.0.1 | 3.0 | Wi-Fi 5 |
| Hub 5x (limited rollout) | Sagemcom | 192.168.0.1 | 3.1 | Wi-Fi 6E |
The Hub 4 is the most common unit among current subscribers. It supports DOCSIS 3.1, which is required for Virgin Media’s gigabit packages. The Hub 5 ships with new Gig1 installations and adds Wi-Fi 6 for better performance with multiple devices. All models share the same default IP address.
Changing Your Virgin Media Wi-Fi Password and SSID
Virgin Media subscribers can update Wi-Fi settings from the Hub admin panel. Log in at 192.168.0.1 using the admin password printed on your Hub’s base label.
Go to Wireless or Wi-Fi in the menu. You will see settings for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. On the Hub 4 and Hub 5, these are combined under a single SSID with Smart Wi-Fi (band steering) enabled by default.
Change the Network Name (SSID) to your preferred name. Update the Password or Network Key field. Use at least 12 characters mixing letters, numbers, and symbols.
Click Apply or Save Changes. All connected devices will disconnect. Reconnect each one with the new password. For detailed instructions, see the Wi-Fi password change guide.
Using Your Own Router with Virgin Media
Virgin Media makes it straightforward to use your own router through modem mode. Because the Hub is a combined cable modem and router, you cannot remove it entirely. Instead, you disable the routing and Wi-Fi functions and let your own router handle everything.
Enabling modem mode:
- Log in at 192.168.0.1 with the admin password from the Hub label.
- Go to Modem Mode in the settings menu.
- Toggle modem mode On. The Hub will warn you that Wi-Fi and routing will be disabled.
- Confirm. The Hub restarts in modem-only mode.
- Connect your own router’s WAN port to any LAN port on the Hub using an ethernet cable.
- Set your router’s WAN to DHCP. It will receive a public IP address directly.
In modem mode, the Hub’s admin panel moves to 192.168.100.1 instead of 192.168.0.1. You need a direct LAN connection to the Hub to access it.
No VLAN tagging or PPPoE credentials needed. DHCP handles everything. Popular choices include the Asus RT-AX86U and TP-Link Archer AX73. To switch back, access 192.168.100.1 and disable modem mode, or factory reset the Hub.
Troubleshooting Virgin Media Hub Issues
Here are the most common Virgin Media router problems and how to fix them.
-
Login page does not load. Make sure your device is on the Virgin Media network, not mobile data. Try a LAN cable into one of the Hub’s LAN ports. If the Hub is in modem mode, the admin IP changes to 192.168.100.1. Type http://192.168.0.1 to stop the browser from searching. If the default was changed, reset the router to restore factory settings.
-
Password rejected. The password is on the Hub’s base label, not a universal default. It is case-sensitive. Check under good light. If someone changed it, a factory reset (hold the reset pin for 10-15 seconds) restores the label password.
-
Connected but no internet (white flashing light). The Hub is starting up. Wait 5 minutes. If it does not settle to a solid white light, check that the coaxial cable from the wall is firmly screwed into the Hub. Loose coax connections are the most common cause of dropouts.
-
Slow speeds during peak hours. Virgin Media uses a shared cable network, so speeds can drop between 7pm and 11pm. Test at different times. If wired speeds are consistently below your plan, call Virgin Media at 0345 454 1111 to request a signal check.
-
Frequent disconnections. Restart the Hub by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Check the coaxial cable at both the Hub and wall plate. If problems persist, Virgin Media can run remote diagnostics. Hub 3 users should request a Hub 4 or Hub 5 upgrade, as DOCSIS 3.0 handles congestion less effectively.
