Verizon Fios Router Login

192.168.1.1

United States Actiontec, Greenwave, Verizon

Verizon Fios uses 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway address on its routers. You can also access the admin panel at myfiosgateway.com. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for Fios router models including the G3100 and CR1000A.

How to Login to Your Verizon Fios Router

Verizon Fios routers from Verizon Communications Inc. use 192.168.1.1 as the default login IP address. Connect to your network through Wi-Fi or a LAN cable, then open a browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

You can also use myfiosgateway.com as the login URL. It resolves to the same admin panel and only works when you are connected to the provider’s network.

The login page asks for a username and password. On the G3100 and CR1000A, the password is printed on the back sticker (labeled “Admin Password”). The username is admin. On older Actiontec MI424WR models, the defaults are admin and password1.

If the page does not load, confirm you are on the service’s network and not mobile data. Try typing http://192.168.1.1 with the full prefix to prevent the browser from searching instead of navigating.

Verizon Fios Router Models and Default Settings

The provider has supplied several router models over the years. Newer subscribers receive the G3100 or CR1000A.

The provider currently ships the CR1000A for new installations and upgrades. It supports WiFi 6E (6GHz band) and handles multi-gig plans up to 2Gbps. The G3100 remains the most widely deployed model and covers most homes under 2,000 sq ft without issues.

Changing Your Fios Wi-Fi Password and Network Name

Subscribers can update Wi-Fi credentials through the router admin panel or the companion app. The admin panel offers more options.

Log in at 192.168.1.1 with your admin credentials. On the G3100 and CR1000A, click Wi-Fi in the left sidebar. You will see your 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks (and 6GHz on the CR1000A).

Click on the network you want to change. Edit the Network Name (SSID) and Password fields. Select WPA2 or WPA3 for encryption. Click Apply at the bottom.

Choose a password of at least 12 characters with letters, numbers, and symbols. All connected devices will drop off after saving. Reconnect them with the new password.

The companion app works well for quick changes. Open the app, go to Internet > Wi-Fi Settings, tap your network, and edit the name or password.

For step-by-step instructions, see our Wi-Fi password change guide.

Using Your Own Router with Verizon Fios

The service is one of the easiest fiber providers to use with your own router. The ONT (Optical Network Terminal) on your wall outputs standard ethernet, so no special configuration is needed.

Steps:

  1. Locate the ONT, usually mounted on an exterior wall or in a utility closet.
  2. Find the ethernet cable running from the ONT’s LAN port to the router’s WAN port.
  3. Disconnect the supplied router.
  4. Plug that same ethernet cable into your own router’s WAN port.
  5. Set your router’s WAN connection type to DHCP (automatic IP).
  6. Restart both the ONT and your router.

No PPPoE credentials, no VLAN tagging, no calling the provider. Your router picks up a public IP address through DHCP and you are online.

If your ONT connects to the router via coaxial cable (MoCA) instead of ethernet, call the provider at 1-800-837-4966 to switch the ONT output to ethernet. This is a remote change they can make from their end.

Troubleshooting Verizon Fios Router Issues

Here are the most common router problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Make sure you are on the provider’s network. Try myfiosgateway.com as an alternative. Disable any active VPN. If you replaced the supplied router with your own, 192.168.1.1 may no longer be the gateway. Check your router’s documentation for its default IP address.

  2. Password rejected. The password on the label is case-sensitive. Look carefully at the sticker. If it still fails, reset the router by holding the recessed button on the back for 10-15 seconds. The label password will work again after reset.

  3. No internet light. Check the ONT first. The ONT should have a solid green “Network” light. If it is off or red, power cycle the ONT by unplugging its power supply for 30 seconds. If the ONT lights are normal but the router shows no internet, restart the router and wait 3-5 minutes.

  4. Slow Wi-Fi speeds. The service delivers excellent wired speeds, so test with a cable first to confirm. If wired speed matches your plan, the bottleneck is Wi-Fi. On the G3100, enable Band Steering in the admin panel to help devices pick the fastest band. Place the router in a central, elevated location away from walls and metal objects.

  5. MoCA issues with own router. If you lose TV guide data or set-top box functionality after switching to your own router, you may need a MoCA adapter to maintain the coax network for the TV boxes.
