Unifi Air 5G is TM's wireless broadband service that delivers home internet over 5G cellular without a fibre connection. The service ships with a ZTE MC8810 5G router (WiFi 6, up to 3000Mbps) or a ZTE U30 5G pocket Mi-Fi. Plug the SIM in, power on, and connect. No installation appointment, no wall drilling, no VLAN configuration.

Unifi Air 5G is the wireless broadband service from Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM). Unlike TM Unifi fibre, which requires a physical fibre-to-the-home connection, Unifi Air delivers internet over 5G cellular. The service targets locations without fibre coverage, renters who cannot install fixed-line infrastructure, and users who need immediate connectivity without waiting for an installation appointment.

How to Login to Your Unifi Air Router

Unifi Air ships with a ZTE MC8810 5G router or a ZTE U30 5G Mi-Fi depending on your plan. Both devices use 192.168.0.1 as the default login IP address.

Insert the Unifi Air SIM card into the slot on the bottom of the ZTE MC8810. Plug in the power adapter. The router boots in about 60 seconds. The 5G/4G signal LED turns solid when the device connects to the cellular network.

Connect your phone or computer to the router’s Wi-Fi network. The default SSID and password are printed on the label on the bottom of the device. Open a browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.

Enter admin as both the username and password. Some units ship with a unique password on the label instead of the standard default. Check the label if admin/admin does not work.

The ZTE U30 Mi-Fi follows the same process. Power on the device, connect to its Wi-Fi (check the screen or label for the SSID), and type 192.168.0.1 in your browser.

Unifi Air Devices and Default Settings

Unifi Air currently offers two devices depending on the plan tier selected.

The ZTE MC8810 is the primary device for home use. It supports WiFi 6 (802.11ax) with speeds up to 3000Mbps on the wireless side. The 5G connection speed depends on signal strength and network congestion in your area. Actual download speeds range from 50Mbps to 500Mbps depending on 5G coverage quality.

The ZTE U30 is a pocket-sized portable hotspot. It fits in a bag or pocket and runs on a built-in battery. The U30 is intended for mobile use or as a backup connection. It does not support WiFi 6.

Unifi Air 5G Plans and Pricing

TM offers four plan tiers for Unifi Air as of 2024.

FUP stands for Fair Usage Policy. On the RM99 plan, after using 1TB in a billing cycle, speeds drop to 512kbps until the next cycle. The RM149 plan is marketed to families and home offices with approximately 10 users. The SIM-only option requires you to provide your own 5G-compatible device.

Maximum 3 Unifi Air plans per NRIC or passport. This service is data-only with no voice or SMS capability.

Changing Your Unifi Air Wi-Fi Password

Log into the ZTE MC8810 admin panel at 192.168.0.1. Go to Wi-Fi Settings or WLAN in the menu. You will see fields for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz network names (SSIDs) and passwords.

Change the password field to your preferred password. Use at least 12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Set the security mode to WPA2-PSK or WPA3 if available. Click Apply.

All connected devices will disconnect. Reconnect each device with the new password. For more details, see the change Wi-Fi password guide.

The ZTE U30 Mi-Fi allows password changes through the same web interface at 192.168.0.1 or through the device’s touchscreen menu (if equipped).

Troubleshooting Unifi Air 5G Issues

Here are the most common problems with the service and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Verify you are connected to the ZTE device’s Wi-Fi network, not your phone’s mobile data or a different router. Type http://192.168.0.1 with the full prefix. Try a different browser or a private browsing window.

  2. No internet after inserting SIM. The SIM may need activation. TM sends an SMS confirmation when the SIM is active. If no confirmation arrives within 30 minutes, call 1-800-88-5059. Make sure the SIM is seated correctly in the tray with the gold contacts facing down.

  3. Slow 5G speeds. Check your signal strength on the router’s admin panel or LED indicators. Fewer bars means weaker signal. Move the router near a window or to a higher floor. Avoid placing it behind thick walls, metal surfaces, or near microwave ovens. The 5G signal relies on line-of-sight to the nearest tower.

  4. Speeds dropped to 512kbps. You have exceeded the 1TB Fair Usage Policy threshold on the RM99 plan. Speeds remain at 512kbps until the next billing cycle. Upgrading to the RM149 plan removes this restriction. Check your data usage at the MyUnifi app or unifi.com.my.

  5. Router overheating. The ZTE MC8810 runs warm during sustained 5G use. Place it in a well-ventilated area, not inside a cabinet or drawer. If the device shuts down from overheating, unplug it for 10 minutes, then restart. Persistent overheating may indicate a hardware issue. Contact TM support at 100 for a replacement.

Unifi Air 5G Router FAQ

What is the default IP address for Unifi Air 5G router?

The ZTE MC8810 5G router uses 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway. Type this into your browser while connected to the router's Wi-Fi network. The ZTE U30 Mi-Fi also uses 192.168.0.1.

What is the default password for Unifi Air router?

The default username is admin and the password is admin on most ZTE devices. Some units ship with a unique password printed on the label on the bottom of the device. Check the label first.

What is the difference between Unifi Air and Unifi fibre?

Unifi Air uses 5G cellular for internet delivery. No fibre cable, no ONT box, no installation appointment. Unifi fibre uses a physical fibre-to-the-home connection with higher and more consistent speeds. Unifi Air is designed for locations without fibre coverage or renters who cannot install fibre.

What is the Fair Usage Policy on Unifi Air?

The RM99 unlimited plan has a 1TB monthly threshold. After exceeding 1TB, speeds drop to 512kbps for the rest of the billing cycle. The RM149 plan does not mention this restriction. The RM69 plan has a hard 120GB cap.

Can I use my own router with Unifi Air?

The ZTE MC8810 does not support bridge mode in the traditional sense since there is no Ethernet WAN port for a second router. You can connect your own router to the MC8810's LAN port and disable the MC8810's Wi-Fi. This creates a double NAT setup, which works for browsing but may cause issues with gaming or VPN.

How many devices can connect to Unifi Air?

The ZTE MC8810 supports up to 64 simultaneous Wi-Fi connections. The ZTE U30 Mi-Fi supports approximately 10 devices. For households with more than 10 devices, the MC8810 is the better choice.
