Spectrum Router Login

192.168.1.1

United States Arris, Sagemcom, Askey

Spectrum uses 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway address on most of its supplied routers. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for Spectrum router models including the SAC2V1K, RAC2V1K, and newer WiFi 6 models.

How to Login to Your Spectrum Router

Spectrum routers from Charter Communications, Inc. use 192.168.0.1 as the default login IP address. Connect to your Spectrum network through Wi-Fi or plug an ethernet cable into one of the router’s LAN ports. Open a browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.

Enter admin for both the username and password. On newer Spectrum routers (SAC2V1K, SAC2V2S), the password may be a unique string printed on the bottom label. Check the sticker if admin does not work.

If the login page does not load, make sure you are connected to the Spectrum network. Disable your phone’s mobile data to prevent it from routing through cellular. Try typing http://192.168.0.1 with the full prefix.

Spectrum also offers the My Spectrum app for basic management tasks like changing the Wi-Fi password and viewing connected devices. But the full admin panel at 192.168.0.1 gives you access to all settings.

Spectrum Router Models and Default Settings

Spectrum has deployed several router models across its service areas. The model depends on your plan speed and when you activated.

Spectrum currently ships the SAC2V2S and RAC2V2R for new activations. The RAC2V2R supports WiFi 6E for plans above 500Mbps. If you have an older model, visit a Spectrum store or call 1-833-267-6094 to request a swap.

Changing Your Spectrum Wi-Fi Password and Network Name

Spectrum subscribers can change Wi-Fi credentials through the admin panel or the My Spectrum app. The admin panel provides the most control.

Log in at 192.168.0.1 with your admin credentials. Go to Wireless or WiFi in the menu (label varies by model). You will see settings for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

Select the band you want to modify. Change the Network Name (SSID) to your preferred name. Update the Password or Pre-Shared Key field. Set encryption to WPA2-PSK or WPA3 if available. Click Apply.

Use at least 12 characters for your password. Avoid common patterns like your apartment number or pet’s name. All connected devices will disconnect when you save. Reconnect each device with the new credentials.

Using Your Own Router with Spectrum

Spectrum provides the cable modem at no charge, but the WiFi router costs $5 per month. Using your own router eliminates that fee and usually improves performance.

Steps:

  1. Return the Spectrum router to a Spectrum store or call to arrange a pickup. Keep the Spectrum modem (it is free).
  2. Connect your own router’s WAN port to the Spectrum modem’s LAN port using an ethernet cable.
  3. Set your router’s WAN connection type to DHCP (automatic IP).
  4. Power cycle the modem by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
  5. Turn on your router. It should pick up an IP address and connect within 2-3 minutes.

No PPPoE, no VLAN tagging, no calling Spectrum for activation. The modem hands out an IP address via DHCP to whatever device connects to its LAN port.

If you want to replace the modem too, Spectrum supports any DOCSIS 3.1 modem. Call Spectrum to register the new modem’s MAC address. For a comparison of cable ISP setups, see our Xfinity guide.

Troubleshooting Spectrum Router Issues

Here are the most common Spectrum router problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Confirm you are connected to the Spectrum network, not a neighbor’s or your phone’s hotspot. Try a different browser or clear your cache. If you replaced the Spectrum router with your own, the default gateway IP address depends on your router brand. Check your router’s manual.

  2. Password rejected. Try admin/admin first, then check the label on the bottom of the router. If neither works, reset the router by pressing the pinhole button on the back for 10-15 seconds. Factory defaults will be restored.

  3. Connected but no internet. Power cycle both devices. Unplug the modem first, wait 30 seconds, plug it in and wait for all lights to stabilize (2-3 minutes). Then restart the router. The modem needs to fully sync before the router can pull an IP address.

  4. Slow Wi-Fi speeds. Test with a wired connection from your computer directly to the modem (bypassing the router). If wired speed matches your plan, the router is the bottleneck. Spectrum’s older SAC2V1K struggles with plans above 400Mbps over Wi-Fi. Upgrading to your own WiFi 6 router helps significantly.

  5. Wi-Fi drops in some rooms. The Spectrum routers have decent range for small apartments but struggle in larger homes. Consider a mesh system. Spectrum sells extenders, but a standalone mesh kit (TP-Link Deco, Eero, or Netgear Orbi) typically performs better.
