Sky Router Login
192.168.0.1
Sky Broadband uses 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway IP address on its supplied routers. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for the Sky Q Hub and Sky Broadband Hub, plus how to use your own router with Sky's network.
How to Login to Your Sky Broadband Router
Sky Broadband, operated by Sky UK Limited (a subsidiary of Comcast), is one of the largest broadband providers in the United Kingdom. To access your Sky router admin panel, connect to your Sky network using Wi-Fi or a LAN cable and open a browser. Type the IP address 192.168.0.1 into the address bar and press Enter.
You will see the Sky router login page. Enter admin as the username and sky as the password. On the newer Sky Broadband Hub (SR203), the admin password is printed on the base of the unit instead of using the default sky. Check the label if the standard credentials do not work.
Sky’s admin interface is more limited than most retail routers. The custom firmware restricts DNS settings, firewall rules, and VLAN configuration. For basic tasks like changing Wi-Fi passwords, the panel works fine.
Sky Broadband Router Models and Default Settings
Sky supplies its own branded routers running custom firmware. The hardware has changed over the years, but the admin panel layout remains similar across models.
| Router Model | Default IP | Username | Password | Connection Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sky Q Hub (ER110) | 192.168.0.1 | admin | sky | FTTC/ADSL |
| Sky Broadband Hub (SR203) | 192.168.0.1 | admin | On base label | FTTC/FTTP |
| Sky Hub (SR102) | 192.168.0.1 | admin | sky | ADSL/FTTC (legacy) |
| Sky Q Hub (ER115) | 192.168.0.1 | admin | sky | FTTC |
| Sky Broadband Hub (SR204) | 192.168.0.1 | admin | On base label | FTTP (latest) |
The Sky Broadband Hub SR203 is the current standard model for new subscribers. It supports both Openreach FTTC and FTTP connections and includes Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). The older Sky Q Hub (ER110) remains common among existing customers. Both use the same IP address for admin access.
Changing Your Sky Wi-Fi Password and Network Name
Sky Broadband subscribers can change Wi-Fi credentials directly from the router admin panel. Log in at 192.168.0.1 using the admin credentials described above.
Go to the Wireless section from the main menu. You will see your current SSID (network name) and security settings. Sky routers broadcast 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands under a single SSID by default, with band steering handling which frequency your devices connect to.
Change the Network Key or Passphrase field to your new password. Use at least 12 characters. Avoid simple combinations like your postcode or house number. Click Apply or Save.
All connected devices will drop off the network. Reconnect each device with the new password. For step-by-step instructions with screenshots for different router brands, see the Wi-Fi password change guide.
Using Your Own Router with Sky Broadband
Sky Broadband works with third-party routers, but the process requires an extra step compared to BT. Sky uses DHCP option 61 (client identifier) for authentication on some lines, which most retail routers support.
FTTC connections: Connect your router’s WAN port to the Openreach modem. Set the WAN type to PPPoE. Your PPPoE username and password are available in your Sky account settings online. You may also need to set DHCP option 61 to your Sky username in the format username@skydsl. Check your router’s WAN settings for a client identifier or option 61 field.
FTTP connections: Connect your router’s WAN port to the Openreach ONT’s LAN port. Set WAN to DHCP. You may still need to configure DHCP option 61 depending on your area and provisioning.
The main advantage is unrestricted access to settings that Sky’s firmware locks down: DNS control, QoS, VPN server support, and detailed logging. The TP-Link Archer AX73 and Asus RT-AX86U are popular replacements. Keep the Sky router as a backup for support calls.
Troubleshooting Sky Broadband Router Issues
Here are the most common Sky Broadband router problems and how to fix them.
-
Login page does not load. Confirm your device is on the Sky network, not mobile data. Try a LAN cable into one of the Sky router’s LAN ports. Type http://192.168.0.1 to prevent the browser from searching instead of navigating. If the default IP was changed, reset the router to restore factory settings.
-
Password rejected. On older Sky hubs, the password is sky (lowercase). On the SR203 and SR204, it is printed on the base label. Try both before resetting. A factory reset restores the admin password to the original value.
-
Connected but no internet (orange or amber light). The router sees the Openreach line but has no internet. Wait 5 minutes after powering on. If the light stays amber, check the Openreach modem for a green broadband light. No green light means a line fault. Check the Sky service status page or call Sky at 03442 411 653.
-
Limited admin features. This is normal for Sky routers. The custom firmware restricts DNS changes, advanced port forwarding, and several LAN settings. If you need these features, use your own router instead.
-
Slow Wi-Fi speeds. Test wired speed first. If wired matches your plan, the issue is wireless. Move the router to a central location away from thick walls. Use the 5GHz band for nearby devices. For larger homes, consider a mesh system.
Sky Router FAQ
What is the default IP address for a Sky Broadband router?
Sky Broadband routers use 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway IP address. Type this into your browser address bar while connected to your Sky Wi-Fi or via a LAN cable to access the router settings.
What is the default password for a Sky router?
The default admin username is admin and the password is sky on most Sky routers. On the Sky Broadband Hub (SR203), the admin password is printed on the base of the router instead. The Wi-Fi password is always on the router's base label.
Can I use my own router with Sky Broadband?
Yes. For Sky FTTC, connect your router to the Openreach modem and use PPPoE with the username and password on your Sky account. For FTTP, use DHCP. You also need to set DHCP option 61 with your Sky username for authentication on some lines.
How do I change my Sky Wi-Fi password?
Log in at 192.168.0.1 with the admin credentials. Go to the Wireless section, find the password or passphrase field, enter your new password (at least 12 characters), and click Apply. Reconnect all devices with the new password.
Why does my Sky router have limited settings?
Sky uses custom firmware that locks down many advanced settings available on retail routers. You cannot change DNS servers, configure port forwarding easily, or adjust many LAN settings. This is by design. Using your own router gives full control.
How do I reset my Sky router to factory settings?
Press and hold the reset pinhole button on the back of the Sky router for 10-20 seconds while powered on. The lights will flash and the router will restart with factory defaults. The Wi-Fi password will revert to the one printed on the base label.
