How to Login to Your Maxis Fibre Router

Maxis Fibre routers from Maxis Berhad use 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway IP address. Connect to your Maxis network through Wi-Fi or a LAN cable plugged into one of the router’s LAN ports, then open a browser and type that IP address into the address bar.

Enter admin for both username and password. On the D-Link DIR-882, try leaving the password field empty if admin doesn’t work. The login page design varies by router model: TP-Link shows a blue/white interface, D-Link shows orange/black.

If the page doesn’t load, confirm you’re on the provider’s network and not mobile data. Try typing http://192.168.0.1 with the full prefix. Check the sticker under your router for the correct gateway IP, as some older models may differ.

Maxis Fibre Router Models and Default Settings

The provider rotates through a few router models depending on your plan and availability. Here’s what you might have:

Maxis Fibre currently ships the TP-Link Archer VR2100v most often. It performs well for homes under 1,200 sq ft. The D-Link DIR-882 is a solid dual-band unit that handles multiple devices well.

If you’re on a higher-tier plan (500Mbps or 1Gbps), you may have received a WiFi 6 capable router. These handle congestion better when many devices connect at once.

Changing Your Maxis Wi-Fi Password and Network Name

Subscribers can update their Wi-Fi credentials from the router admin panel. Here’s the process on the TP-Link Archer VR2100v, the most common model.

Log in at 192.168.0.1. Click Wireless in the left menu. You’ll see tabs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Change both.

Under Wireless Network Name, type your new SSID. Under Password or WPA Pre-Shared Key, enter your new password. Use at least 12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Your house number or phone number is not a good password.

Click Save. All connected devices will disconnect. Reconnect each device using the new credentials. If you changed the SSID, you’ll need to “forget” the old network on your phone first.

Using Your Own Router with Maxis Fibre

The service is easier than TM Unifi for this. Most Maxis Fibre plans use plain DHCP, so no messing with VLAN tags or PPPoE credentials.

Steps:

1. Disconnect the supplied router from the ONT (the small white box on the wall).
2. Connect your own router’s WAN port directly to the ONT’s LAN port 1 using an ethernet cable.
3. Set your router’s WAN connection type to DHCP (also called Dynamic IP or Automatic).
4. Restart both the ONT and your router.
5. Your router should pick up an IP address and connect automatically.

No VLAN tagging needed, no PPPoE, no calling the provider for credentials. If your connection doesn’t come up after 5 minutes, power cycle the ONT by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.

Troubleshooting Maxis Fibre Router Issues

Here are the most common router problems and how to fix them.

1. Login page does not load. Make sure you are connected to the provider’s network. Disable mobile data on your phone so it does not route through 4G instead. Try a different browser or clear your cache. If you changed the router’s LAN IP before, the default will not work. Reset the router.

2. Password rejected. Technicians sometimes set a custom password during installation. Check if there is a sticker on the router with updated credentials. If not, factory reset using the pinhole button on the back (hold 10-15 seconds). Default credentials will be restored.

3. Connected but no internet. Power cycle the ONT first. Unplug for 30 seconds, plug back in, wait 2-3 minutes. Check your account for outstanding bills. Log in at maxis.com.my or call 123 to verify your service is active.

4. Wi-Fi keeps dropping. Update your router firmware through the admin panel. On the TP-Link VR2100v, go to System Tools > Firmware Upgrade and check for updates. Also try changing the Wi-Fi channel, since auto-channel sometimes picks congested channels in apartment buildings. Channels 1, 6, or 11 on 2.4GHz tend to work best.

5. Slow Wi-Fi speeds but fast on cable. Move the router away from walls, microwaves, and Astro decoders. Use the 5GHz band for devices within line of sight of the router. For distant rooms, consider a mesh system.
