M1 is Singapore's third-largest telecommunications provider offering fibre broadband on the NetLink Trust infrastructure. Most M1 routers use 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for M1-supplied routers.

M1 is Singapore’s third-largest telecommunications provider, operated by M1 Limited under Keppel Ltd. The provider offers fibre broadband on the NetLink Trust national fibre infrastructure, delivering plans from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps. Nokia and Huawei ONT and router equipment ships to subscribers. Most routers from the service use 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway IP address, with unique passwords printed on each device label.

How to Login to Your M1 Router

To access the router admin panel, connect to your network through Wi-Fi or a LAN cable. Open a browser and type the IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. The login page will appear after a few seconds.

Enter admin as the username. For the password, check the sticker on the bottom or back of your router. The provider sets a unique password per device rather than using a universal default.

If 192.168.1.1 does not load, try 192.168.1.254 as some models use that IP address instead. Confirm you are connected to the correct network and not mobile data.

The My M1 app handles account management and billing. Full router configuration including port forwarding, DHCP reservations, and wireless channel selection requires the web admin panel.

Router Models and Default Settings

The provider has supplied several router and ONT models over the years. The equipment depends on your plan tier and installation date.

All Singapore fibre ISPs share the same NetLink Trust ONT infrastructure. The Nokia G-240W-F is the standard ONT that terminates the fibre line. Some plans include a separate Wi-Fi router in addition to the ONT. Singtel subscribers use the same Nokia ONT models.

Changing Your Wi-Fi Password

Subscribers should change the default Wi-Fi password from the router admin panel. Although the default is unique per device, changing it to something memorable and secure is good practice.

Log in at 192.168.1.1 with the credentials from your router label. Go to Wireless or WLAN settings. You will see entries for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

Select the SSID to modify. Change the SSID Name to your preferred network name. In the WPA PreSharedKey or Password field, enter a new password at least 12 characters long.

Click Apply. All connected devices will drop off and need to rejoin. Update both frequency bands for consistency.

Using Your Own Router with M1 Fibre

The service makes it straightforward to use your own router. The ONT handles fibre-to-Ethernet conversion on the NetLink Trust network.

Steps to connect your own router:

  1. Disconnect the supplied router from the ONT (if separate) or disable Wi-Fi on the combined ONT/router unit.
  2. Connect your router’s WAN port to the ONT’s LAN port 1 using an Ethernet cable.
  3. Set your router’s WAN connection type to DHCP (automatic IP).
  4. Restart the ONT by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then power on your router.
  5. Your router should obtain an IP address automatically within a minute.

Residential fibre plans use DHCP, so there is no PPPoE username or password required. No VLAN tagging is needed for basic internet access.

Popular routers among Singapore broadband users include the Asus RT-AX86U and TP-Link Archer AX73. For HDB flats larger than 4 rooms, a mesh system provides better coverage throughout the unit.

Troubleshooting Router Issues

Here are the most common router problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Confirm you are on the correct network, not mobile data. Type http://192.168.1.1 with the prefix. If that fails, try 192.168.1.254. Connect via a LAN cable to rule out Wi-Fi issues. Reset the router if neither address works.

  2. Password rejected. The routers use the label password, not a universal default. Check the sticker carefully. If the label is damaged, a factory reset (hold the reset button 10 to 15 seconds) restores the label password.

  3. Connected but no internet. Power cycle the ONT by unplugging it for 30 seconds, wait two minutes, then restart the router. Check for a solid green light on the ONT. If the light is red, the fibre line has a fault. Report through the app or call 1627.

  4. Slow Wi-Fi speeds. Test with a LAN cable first. The service delivers full speed over wired connections. If Wi-Fi is slow, switch to the 5 GHz band for nearby devices. Singapore HDB walls reduce signal. A mesh system or better-positioned router helps.

  5. Red LOS light on the ONT. A red LOS light indicates fibre signal loss. Check the fibre cable from the wall termination point to the ONT. Do not bend fibre cables. If the cable is intact, report through the app or call 1627.
