Frontier Router Login

192.168.1.1

United States Arris, Greenwave

Frontier Communications provides fiber and DSL broadband across the United States. Most Frontier routers use 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for Frontier-supplied routers including the Eero 6+ on fiber plans and Arris FON-2601 on DSL.

How to Login to Your Frontier Router

Frontier Communications, a major broadband provider in the United States, serves millions of households with fiber and DSL internet. To access your Frontier router admin panel, connect to your Frontier network through Wi-Fi or a LAN cable. Open any browser and type the IP address 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.

Enter admin for both username and password. On some Frontier routers, the password is printed on a sticker on the bottom of the device. Check there if the default does not work.

Frontier acquired many former Verizon Fios service areas in 2016 and 2020. If you were previously a Fios customer, your router may still carry Verizon branding but follows Frontier’s default credentials.

Customers on newer Frontier Fiber plans receive an Eero 6+ mesh system. The Eero does not have a traditional web login. Download the Eero app on your phone to manage the network instead. The Eero gateway IP address is still 192.168.1.1 on the local network.

Frontier Router Models and Default Settings

Frontier has supplied different routers depending on your service type and region. Here are the models you are likely to encounter:

The Arris FON-2601 is common on Frontier DSL plans. The Greenwave G1100 is a leftover from the Verizon Fios days and remains capable for plans up to 300 Mbps. Frontier’s parent company shifted to Eero mesh hardware for fiber customers starting in 2023.

Changing Your Frontier Wi-Fi Password

Frontier subscribers can update their Wi-Fi password from the router admin panel or the Eero app, depending on the router model. For Arris and Greenwave routers, log in at 192.168.1.1 and go to Wireless Setup or Wi-Fi Settings in the menu.

Find the WPA/WPA2 Password or Network Key field. Delete the old password and type a new one. Use at least 12 characters with mixed letters, numbers, and a symbol or two. Your street address or phone number makes a weak password.

Click Apply or Save. Every connected device will lose its connection and need to rejoin with the new credentials. Change the password on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands if your router broadcasts both.

For the Eero 6+, open the Eero app, tap Settings, then Wi-Fi Password. Type your new password and tap Save.

Using Your Own Router with Frontier

Frontier allows customers to use their own routers. The process depends on whether you have fiber or DSL service.

Frontier Fiber: The ONT installed on your wall outputs Ethernet directly. Disconnect the Frontier router from the ONT. Plug your own router’s WAN port into the ONT’s Ethernet port. Set the WAN connection type to DHCP. No PPPoE credentials or VLAN configuration needed.

Frontier DSL: You need a modem-router combo or standalone DSL modem. Frontier DSL uses PPPoE, so you will need your PPPoE username and password. Call Frontier at 1-800-921-8101 to request these credentials.

Any router with a Gigabit WAN port works on Frontier fiber. Popular choices include the Asus RT-AX86U and TP-Link Archer AX73.

Troubleshooting Frontier Router Issues

Here are the most common Frontier router problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Confirm you are on the Frontier network, not cellular data. Type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. If you have an Eero, web login is disabled and you must use the Eero app. Try a LAN cable connection. If the IP still fails, reset your router.

  2. Password rejected. Frontier technicians sometimes set custom passwords during installation. Check the router sticker. On the Arris NVG443B, the default password is unique per device. Factory reset restores the label password.

  3. Connected but no internet. Power cycle the modem then the router. For fiber, check that the ONT has solid green lights. For DSL, verify the DSL sync light is steady. Call Frontier at 1-800-921-8101 if lights indicate a line issue.

  4. Slow Wi-Fi speeds. Run a speed test over a wired connection first. If wired speed matches your plan, Wi-Fi is the bottleneck. Move the router away from metal objects and thick walls. Use the 5 GHz band for speed, 2.4 GHz for range.

  5. Intermittent drops on DSL. DSL is sensitive to line quality. Check all phone jacks for proper filters. A missing DSL filter on any active phone jack causes disconnections. If the DSL light blinks frequently, contact Frontier for a line test.

  6. ONT power issues (fiber). The Frontier ONT has a battery backup unit. If the battery is dead, the ONT may behave erratically during power fluctuations. Replace the battery or disconnect it if you do not need backup power.

Frontier Router FAQ

What is the default IP address for a Frontier router?

Most Frontier routers use 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway IP address. Frontier Eero devices on fiber plans use a different setup flow through the Eero app, but the gateway IP address remains 192.168.1.1 on the local network.

What is the default username and password for Frontier router?

The default username is admin and the password is admin on most Frontier-supplied Arris and Greenwave routers. On the Eero 6+, there is no traditional web login. You manage it through the Eero mobile app instead. Some routers have a unique password printed on the label.

Can I use my own router with Frontier Fiber?

Yes. On Frontier Fiber plans, the ONT outputs Ethernet directly. Connect your own router's WAN port to the ONT LAN port and set WAN to DHCP. No PPPoE or VLAN tagging required on most Frontier fiber plans. DSL customers need a compatible modem-router combo.

How do I reset my Frontier router to factory settings?

Locate the reset pinhole on the back of your Frontier router. Press and hold the button with a paperclip for 10 to 15 seconds while the router is powered on. The router will reboot with factory default settings. You will need to reconfigure your network name and password after reset.

Why can't I access 192.168.1.1 on my Frontier network?

Make sure you are connected to the Frontier network via Wi-Fi or LAN cable, not mobile data. Type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar, not the search bar. If you have a Frontier Eero device, web-based login is disabled and you must use the Eero app. Try a factory reset if the page still does not load.
