DTAC Home is a Thai 4G/5G home broadband service now merged with True Corporation. Most DTAC Home routers use 192.168.8.1 as the default gateway. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for DTAC-supplied CPE devices.

DTAC Home is a wireless home broadband service originally operated by Total Access Communication Pcl (DTAC). Following the merger with True Corporation Pcl in 2023, the combined entity now operates under the True Corporation brand as part of the CP Group. Existing DTAC Home subscribers continue using their current hardware. The service delivers internet through 4G and 5G cellular networks using CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) devices. Most routers supplied by the provider use 192.168.8.1 as the default gateway IP address.

How to Login to Your DTAC Home Router

To access the DTAC Home router admin panel, connect to the device through Wi-Fi or a LAN cable. Open a browser and type the IP address 192.168.8.1 in the address bar. The login page will appear after a few seconds.

Enter admin as the username and admin as the password. Some CPE units have a unique password printed on the label. Check the sticker on the bottom of the device if the default does not work.

The DTAC app (now True app) provides basic connection monitoring and account management. Full router configuration requires the web admin panel at 192.168.8.1.

Unlike fibre broadband, the service uses a SIM card inside the CPE for connectivity. No physical cable runs to the device beyond the power adapter.

DTAC Home Router Models and Default Settings

The service has deployed several Huawei and ZTE CPE models. The unit depends on your plan and coverage area.

The Huawei B311-221 is the most common unit for basic 4G plans. The Huawei B818 and 5G CPE Pro appear on higher-tier plans in areas with strong 5G coverage. All Huawei B Series devices share the 192.168.8.1 default gateway.

Changing Your DTAC Home Wi-Fi Password

Subscribers should change the default Wi-Fi password to secure their network. Here is the process for Huawei B Series CPE devices, which are the most common.

Log in at 192.168.8.1 with your admin credentials. Click on Wi-Fi or WLAN in the menu. The current SSID name and security settings will appear.

Change the Wi-Fi Name (SSID) to something you recognize. In the Wi-Fi Key or Password field, type your new password. Use at least 12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.

Click Save or Apply. All connected devices will need to rejoin with the new credentials. The provider’s CPE devices broadcast a single band (2.4 GHz on most 4G models) or dual bands (on 5G models).

Using Your Own Router with DTAC Home

The service supports connecting a third-party router to the CPE device for better Wi-Fi coverage and features.

Steps to connect your own router:

  1. Log in to the CPE at 192.168.8.1 and disable the built-in Wi-Fi under WLAN settings.
  2. Connect your router’s WAN port to the CPE’s LAN port using an Ethernet cable.
  3. Set your router’s WAN connection type to DHCP.
  4. Change your router’s LAN subnet to a different range (such as 192.168.0.x) if it also defaults to 192.168.8.x to avoid IP conflicts.
  5. Restart both devices.

This creates a double NAT setup, which works for general browsing and streaming. Gaming or hosting servers may require additional configuration.

The CPE device handles the cellular connection and SIM authentication. Your personal router simply extends the network with better Wi-Fi. True Online fibre subscribers who switch from DTAC Home will need different setup steps since fibre uses a wired ONT instead of a cellular CPE.

Troubleshooting DTAC Home Router Issues

Here are the most common CPE problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Verify you are connected to the CPE’s Wi-Fi or LAN port. Type http://192.168.8.1 with the prefix. Use a LAN cable if Wi-Fi is unstable. Reset the device using the pinhole button if the page does not appear.

  2. Password rejected. Check the device label for a unique password. A factory reset (hold the reset pinhole for 10 seconds) restores defaults. You may need to reconfigure APN settings after reset.

  3. No internet connection. Verify the SIM card is properly inserted. Check signal strength on the admin panel. Move the CPE near a window for better reception. If the SIM is active but shows no connection, verify APN settings or contact support.

  4. Slow speeds. Cellular broadband speeds depend on signal strength and network congestion. Reposition the CPE near a window or on a higher floor. Check the admin panel for signal bars and band information. Peak evening hours may be slower.

  5. Device shows no SIM detected. Power off the CPE, remove and re-insert the SIM card firmly, then power on. If the SIM is still not detected, try the SIM in a phone to confirm it is active. Contact support for a replacement SIM if needed.
