Deutsche Telekom Router Login

192.168.2.1

Germany Speedport, Fritz!Box

Deutsche Telekom uses 192.168.2.1 as the default gateway IP address on Speedport routers, which is unusual compared to most ISPs. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for the Speedport Smart 4, Speedport Pro Plus, and using a Fritz!Box on the Telekom network.

How to Login to Your Deutsche Telekom Router

Deutsche Telekom AG, operating under the Telekom and Magenta brand, is Germany’s largest broadband provider. To access your Speedport router admin panel, connect to your Telekom network through Wi-Fi or a LAN cable. Open a browser and type 192.168.2.1 in the address bar. You can also type speedport.ip as an alternative URL.

Deutsche Telekom uses an unusual default IP address. While providers like Vodafone and Orange use 192.168.1.1, Telekom Speedport routers default to 192.168.2.1.

The admin panel asks for the device password only. There is no username field. The password is printed on the sticker on the bottom of your Speedport router. Enter it and click Anmelden (Login).

If the login page does not load, confirm you are on the Telekom network. Try http://speedport.ip with the full prefix. A LAN cable connection is more reliable than Wi-Fi for admin access.

Deutsche Telekom Router Models and Default Settings

Deutsche Telekom supplies Speedport-branded routers. Many customers opt for a Fritz!Box from AVM instead, which Telekom also sells directly.

The Speedport Smart 4 is the current standard for new subscribers, supporting VDSL and FTTH with Wi-Fi 6. The Speedport Pro Plus adds tri-band Wi-Fi and mesh support. Fritz!Box models use 192.168.178.1 instead of 192.168.2.1 as their default IP address.

Changing Your Deutsche Telekom Wi-Fi Password and SSID

Deutsche Telekom subscribers can change Wi-Fi credentials from the Speedport admin panel. Log in at 192.168.2.1 using the device password from the router label.

Go to Heimnetzwerk (Home Network) in the menu, then select WLAN-Einstellungen (WLAN Settings). You will see your current SSID and security settings for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

Change the WLAN-Name (SSID) to your preferred network name. Update the WLAN-Schluessel (Wi-Fi key) with your new password. Use at least 12 characters mixing letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using your Telekom Kundennummer or address.

Click Speichern (Save). All connected devices will disconnect. Reconnect each device using the new password. For a general walkthrough, see the Wi-Fi password change guide.

Fritz!Box users go to WLAN > Sicherheit (Security) instead.

Using Your Own Router with Deutsche Telekom

Deutsche Telekom supports third-party routers under German and EU router freedom regulations (Routerfreiheit). You can replace the Speedport with any compatible router.

What you need from Telekom:

  • PPPoE username: Built from your Zugangsnummer (access number) and Mitbenutzernummer. Format: AAAAAAAAAAMM#TTTT@t-online.de (where A is the access number, M is the co-user number, T is the suffix).
  • PPPoE password: Sent in your Telekom welcome letter. Available in the Kundencenter at kundencenter.telekom.de.

VDSL connections: Connect your router to the Telekom DSL socket (TAE). Most modern routers like the Fritz!Box 7590 AX have a built-in VDSL modem. Set WAN to PPPoE and enter your credentials.

FTTH connections: Connect your router’s WAN port to the Telekom ONT’s LAN port. Set WAN to PPPoE with your Telekom credentials.

The Fritz!Box 7590 AX is the most popular alternative to the Speedport among Telekom customers. It offers better admin controls, integrated DECT, and regular AVM firmware updates.

Troubleshooting Deutsche Telekom Router Issues

Here are the most common Deutsche Telekom router problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Make sure your device is connected to the Telekom network, not mobile data. Try a LAN cable into one of the Speedport’s LAN ports. Type http://speedport.ip as an alternative. If you replaced the Speedport with a Fritz!Box, the default IP is 192.168.178.1 instead. If the IP was changed, reset the router to restore factory settings.

  2. Password rejected. The password is on the label, not a standard default. Check under the router or on the back panel. It is case-sensitive. If someone changed it through the admin panel, a factory reset (hold the reset pin for 10-15 seconds) restores the label password.

  3. Connected but no internet (DSL light blinking or red). The Speedport cannot sync with the Telekom DSLAM. Check the TAE cable from the router to the phone socket. Make sure it is in the correct port (F-coded for DSL). Wait 10 minutes for sync. If the light stays red, call 0800 330 1000 or use the MeinMagenta app.

  4. Slow broadband speeds. Test with a LAN cable first. Deutsche Telekom VDSL speeds depend on your distance from the DSLAM. If wired speeds fall below your plan, run a test at breitbandmessung.de and contact Telekom with the results.

  5. Internet drops after switching routers. Double-check your PPPoE credentials. The username format is specific and easy to get wrong. Log in to kundencenter.telekom.de and verify each component. Confirm your router’s WAN is set to VLAN 7 if required. Some Telekom FTTH setups need 192.168.0.1 on the LAN side to avoid IP address conflicts.

Deutsche Telekom Router FAQ

What is the default IP address for a Deutsche Telekom Speedport router?

Deutsche Telekom Speedport routers use 192.168.2.1 as the default gateway IP address. You can also type speedport.ip into your browser address bar. This is different from most ISPs which use 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

What is the default password for a Speedport router?

Speedport routers do not have a universal default password. The device password is printed on the label on the bottom or back of the router. There is no default username. You only need the device password to access the admin panel.

Can I use a Fritz!Box instead of the Speedport?

Yes. Many Deutsche Telekom customers prefer the Fritz!Box 7590 AX or Fritz!Box 7530 AX. Telekom even sells Fritz!Box models directly. The Fritz!Box uses 192.168.178.1 as its default IP instead of 192.168.2.1. Configure it with your Telekom PPPoE credentials from the Kundencenter.

How do I find my Deutsche Telekom PPPoE credentials?

Log in to the Telekom Kundencenter at kundencenter.telekom.de. Go to your broadband contract details. Your PPPoE username follows the format of your Zugangsnummer (access number) plus Mitbenutzernummer and @t-online.de. The password was sent in your welcome letter.

How do I change my Deutsche Telekom Wi-Fi password?

Log in at 192.168.2.1 or speedport.ip. Go to Heimnetzwerk then WLAN settings. Change the WLAN-Schluessel (Wi-Fi key) to your new password, at least 12 characters. Click Speichern (Save). Reconnect your devices.

How do I reset a Speedport router to factory settings?

Press and hold the reset button on the back of the Speedport for 10-15 seconds while powered on. The router restarts with factory defaults. The device password reverts to the one on the label. You will need to reconfigure your Telekom connection settings.
