Cox Router Login
192.168.0.1
Cox uses 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway address on most of its supplied routers and Panoramic Wifi gateways. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for Cox-supplied equipment including the Panoramic Wifi gateway and older Arris and Technicolor models.
How to Login to Your Cox Router
Cox gateways from Cox Communications, Inc. (a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises) use 192.168.0.1 as the default login IP address. Connect to your Cox network through Wi-Fi or plug an ethernet cable into one of the gateway’s LAN ports. Open a browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
Enter admin as the username and password as the password. On newer Panoramic Wifi gateways, the default credentials may be printed on a sticker on the bottom or side of the unit. Check there if the standard defaults do not work.
If the login page does not load, verify you are connected to the Cox network and not mobile data. Try typing http://192.168.0.1 with the full prefix. Clearing your browser cache can also help if the page loads partially.
Cox also offers the Cox app (iOS and Android) for managing Wi-Fi settings, viewing connected devices, and running speed tests. The app handles most daily tasks, but the full admin panel at 192.168.0.1 gives access to advanced configuration.
Cox Router Models and Default Settings
Cox has deployed several gateway models across its service areas. The current standard is the Panoramic Wifi gateway, but older models remain in many homes.
| Gateway Model | Manufacturer | Default IP | Username | Password | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Panoramic Wifi (CGM4331COM) | Technicolor | 192.168.0.1 | admin | password | WiFi 6, current standard |
| Panoramic Wifi (CGM4141COX) | Technicolor | 192.168.0.1 | admin | password | WiFi 5, older Panoramic |
| TG3482G | Arris | 192.168.0.1 | admin | password | DOCSIS 3.1, WiFi 5 |
| TG1682G | Arris | 192.168.0.1 | admin | password | DOCSIS 3.0, legacy |
| CODA-4582 | Hitron | 192.168.0.1 | cusadmin | password | DOCSIS 3.1, some markets |
Cox currently ships the Technicolor CGM4331COM Panoramic Wifi gateway for new installations. It handles DOCSIS 3.1 and WiFi 6 with decent performance for homes up to 1,500 sq ft. The older CGM4141COX is still common on existing accounts.
The Hitron CODA-4582 appears in some Cox markets. Note the different default username: cusadmin instead of admin.
Changing Your Cox Wi-Fi Password and Network Name
Cox subscribers can change Wi-Fi credentials through the gateway admin panel, the Cox app, or the cox.com account portal. The admin panel provides the most options.
Log in at 192.168.0.1 with your credentials. Go to WiFi or Wireless in the menu. You will see settings for 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The Panoramic Wifi gateway combines them under a single SSID by default, but you can split them.
Click on the network to edit. Change the Network Name (SSID) and Password fields. Set security to WPA2 or WPA3 if your devices support it. Click Save or Apply.
Use at least 12 characters for your password. Avoid your address, phone number, or apartment unit number. All connected devices will disconnect after saving. Reconnect each one using the new password.

Using Your Own Router with Cox
Cox charges $5.99 per month to rent the Panoramic Wifi gateway. Using your own modem and router eliminates this fee and typically gives you better Wi-Fi performance and more configuration options.
Steps:
- Purchase a DOCSIS 3.1 modem from Cox’s approved list. Good choices: Arris SB8200, Motorola MB8611, Netgear CM1200.
- Call Cox at 1-800-234-3993 to register the modem’s MAC address and HFC (hardware) address.
- Connect the coaxial cable from the wall to the modem’s coax input.
- Connect your router’s WAN port to the modem’s LAN port using an ethernet cable.
- Set your router’s WAN connection type to DHCP (automatic).
- Wait 5-10 minutes for the modem to provision and sync.
No PPPoE or VLAN tagging needed. Cox uses straight DHCP. Your router picks up a public IP address once the modem syncs.

Troubleshooting Cox Router Issues
Here are the most common Cox router problems and how to fix them.
-
Login page does not load. Make sure you are connected to the Cox network. Disable VPN software. Try a different browser or incognito mode. If you use a Hitron gateway, the default IP address may differ. Check the label on your specific model.
-
Password rejected. Try admin/password first. If that fails, check the label on the gateway. If the credentials were changed and you do not remember them, reset the gateway by holding the pinhole button for 10-15 seconds. Factory defaults will be restored.
-
Connected but no internet. Check that the coaxial cable is tightly connected to both the wall outlet and the gateway’s coax input. Avoid splitters if possible, as each one reduces signal strength. Power cycle the gateway by unplugging for 60 seconds. Wait 5 minutes for it to fully sync.
-
Slow Wi-Fi speeds. Test with a wired connection from your computer directly to the gateway’s LAN port. If wired speed matches your plan but Wi-Fi is slow, the gateway’s wireless radio is the bottleneck. The Panoramic Wifi gateway struggles in larger homes. Adding mesh extenders or using your own mesh system helps.
-
Frequent disconnections. Check for loose coaxial connections. Old or damaged coax cables cause intermittent drops. If connections look fine, contact Cox to check signal levels at your address.
Cox Router FAQ
What is the default IP address for Cox router?
Cox routers and Panoramic Wifi gateways use 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway address. Type this in your browser while connected to the Cox network. Some older Arris models may use 192.168.1.1.
What is the default username and password for Cox gateway?
The default username is admin and the default password is password on most Cox gateways. On newer Panoramic Wifi models, the credentials may be printed on the device label. Check the sticker on the bottom or side of the gateway.
How do I change my Cox Wi-Fi password?
Log in at 192.168.0.1 with admin credentials. Go to WiFi or Wireless settings. Update the password for your 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Click Save or Apply. You can also change it through the Cox app or cox.com account portal.
Can I use my own router with Cox?
Yes. You can return the Panoramic Wifi gateway and use your own DOCSIS 3.1 modem plus a router. This eliminates the $5.99 per month rental fee. Cox maintains a list of approved modems on their website. Connect your router's WAN port to the modem's LAN port and set WAN to DHCP.
How much does Cox charge to rent a gateway?
Cox charges $5.99 per month for the Panoramic Wifi gateway rental. Over a year, that is about $72. Buying your own DOCSIS 3.1 modem (around $80-150) and router pays for itself within the first year.
How do I reset my Cox gateway?
Press and hold the reset button on the back of the gateway for 10-15 seconds using a paperclip. The gateway will reboot with factory settings. Default credentials will be restored. You can also reset through the Cox app under Internet > Troubleshooting.
