AT&T Router Login

192.168.1.254

United States Arris, Nokia, Humax

AT&T uses 192.168.1.254 as the default gateway address on most of its fiber and DSL routers. This guide covers login steps, default passwords, and configuration for AT&T-supplied gateways including the BGW210-700, BGW320-505, and older Pace models.

How to Login to Your AT&T Router

AT&T gateways from AT&T Inc. use 192.168.1.254 as the default login IP address. Connect to your AT&T network through Wi-Fi or plug an ethernet cable into one of the gateway’s four LAN ports. Open a browser and type 192.168.1.254 in the address bar.

The login page shows the AT&T logo and a password field. On the BGW210-700 and BGW320-505, the password is a unique 12-character code printed on the side label of the gateway (labeled “Device Access Code”). On older Pace 5268AC gateways, try attadmin as the password.

The username field is sometimes blank by default. If the gateway asks for a username, enter admin or leave it empty. Both work on most models.

If the page does not load, try the shortcut URL http://att.gateway in your browser. Some older gateways also respond at 10.0.0.1, so try that as well. Make sure you are connected to the provider’s network and not cellular data.

AT&T Router Models and Default Settings

The provider has deployed several gateway models across its fiber and DSL service areas. The model you receive depends on your plan type and installation date.

AT&T currently ships the BGW320-505 for new fiber installations. This model has a built-in ONT, so there is no separate fiber box on the wall. The BGW210-700 is still common on existing installations and works with a separate Arris or Nokia ONT.

Changing Your AT&T Wi-Fi Password and Network Name

Subscribers can update Wi-Fi credentials through the gateway admin panel or the Smart Home Manager app. The admin panel gives you more control.

Log in at 192.168.1.254 with your Device Access Code. Click Home Network in the top menu, then Wi-Fi. You will see your 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks listed separately.

Click on the network you want to change. Update the Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) and Wi-Fi Password fields. Set WPA mode to WPA2 or WPA3 if your devices support it. Click Save.

Pick a password with at least 12 characters. Mix letters, numbers, and symbols. Every connected device will disconnect after saving, so reconnect them with the new credentials.

The Smart Home Manager app (available on iOS and Android) offers the same functionality. Open the app, tap Wi-Fi, tap your network name, and edit from there.

For detailed steps, see our Wi-Fi password change guide.

Using Your Own Router with AT&T

The provider requires their gateway for fiber authentication (802.1X), so you cannot fully replace it. You can, however, pass the public IP address through to your own router using IP Passthrough mode.

Setting up IP Passthrough:

  1. Log in at 192.168.1.254.
  2. Go to Firewall > IP Passthrough.
  3. Set Allocation Mode to Passthrough.
  4. Set Passthrough Mode to DHCPS-fixed.
  5. Select your router’s MAC address from the dropdown (it must be connected to one of the gateway’s LAN ports first).
  6. Click Save.

Connect your router’s WAN port to one of the gateway’s LAN ports. Your router will receive the public IP directly and handle all routing, NAT, and firewall duties.

Disable Wi-Fi on the gateway after enabling passthrough. Go to Home Network > Wi-Fi and turn off both 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios to avoid interference with your own router’s signals.

Troubleshooting AT&T Router Issues

Here are the most common gateway problems and how to fix them.

  1. Login page does not load. Verify you are on the provider’s network. Try http://att.gateway as an alternative URL. If you set up IP Passthrough, the gateway’s admin panel is still accessible at 192.168.1.254 from a device plugged directly into its LAN ports.

  2. Device Access Code not working. The code on the label is case-sensitive. Double-check every character, especially zeros vs. the letter O. If it still fails, reset the gateway to restore the original access code.

  3. Broadband light blinking red. This means no DSL or fiber signal. For fiber, check that the ONT has a solid green light. For DSL, verify the phone line is connected to the DSL port (not a phone port). Contact the provider at 1-800-288-2020 if the issue persists.

  4. Slow Wi-Fi speeds. Test with a cable plugged into the gateway’s LAN port first. The fiber service should deliver close to advertised speeds on a wired connection. If Wi-Fi is slow, the BGW210 has mediocre wireless performance. Using your own WiFi 6 router through IP Passthrough is the best fix. Place the access point centrally and use the 5GHz band for speed-sensitive devices.

  5. IP Passthrough drops connection. Some BGW210 units have a known issue where passthrough drops after firmware updates. Reboot the gateway and your router. If the problem repeats, log in and re-save the IP Passthrough settings. The provider pushes firmware updates automatically, which can reset this configuration.
