192.168.31.1 Router Admin Login

192.168.31.1 is the default IP address for every Xiaomi and Redmi router. Xiaomi chose the 192.168.31.0/24 subnet exclusively for its networking products. The admin panel is also accessible through miwifi.com, a branded URL intercepted locally. Unlike most competitors, Xiaomi routers ship without a factory default password and require the owner to create one during initial setup through the Mi WiFi app or web wizard.

How to Login to 192.168.31.1

Power on the Xiaomi router and wait 60 seconds for it to boot. Connect to the router’s Wi-Fi network. New Xiaomi routers broadcast an open network named “Xiaomi_XXXX” or “Redmi_XXXX” where the X characters are random.

Open a browser and type 192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com in the address bar. On a brand-new router, the setup wizard appears immediately. It walks you through three steps: selecting your internet connection type, setting a Wi-Fi name and password, and creating an admin password.

On a router that has already been configured, the login page shows a single password field. Enter the admin password that was set during initial setup. There is no username field. Xiaomi uses password-only authentication for the admin panel.

The Mi WiFi app (iOS and Android) connects to the same gateway. In China, the app links the router to a Mi account for remote management. Global versions work without a Mi account but offer fewer cloud features.

Xiaomi does not use traditional default credentials. The admin password is always user-created. Here is what each model expects:

The setup wizard offers an option to use the same password for both Wi-Fi and admin access. If you remember your Wi-Fi password, try it at the login page.

If you cannot recall the password, factory reset the router. Press and hold the reset button (a small pinhole on the back) for 10 seconds until the LED flashes orange. The router reboots into first-time setup mode. All custom settings, including Wi-Fi names and passwords, are erased. To change your Wi-Fi password after resetting, log back into the admin panel and go to Wi-Fi Settings.

Routers Using This IP

Xiaomi is the third-largest smartphone maker globally and has used that brand recognition to build a major router business. In China, Xiaomi routers outsell every brand except TP-Link.

The current lineup includes the Mi Router 4A (budget dual-band), Mi Router AX3600 (Wi-Fi 6), Mi Router AX9000 (tri-band gaming), and the Mi Router BE7000 (Wi-Fi 7). All use the same gateway and MiWiFi interface.

Redmi routers target the budget segment. The Redmi AX5 and Redmi AX6 deliver Wi-Fi 6 at aggressive price points. The Redmi AC2100 is a popular dual-band option. Redmi models use the same firmware as Xiaomi-branded units. Xiaomi mesh systems (Mi Mesh System AX3000) also default to this address.

Troubleshooting

1. miwifi.com does not load. If you configured a custom DNS (like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1) on your device, the miwifi.com redirect fails because the DNS query goes to an external server that does not resolve it. Use the numeric IP address 192.168.31.1 instead, or switch your device back to automatic DNS.

2. Admin panel is in Chinese. Routers purchased from Chinese retailers default to Simplified Chinese. Go to the settings page (gear icon, bottom menu) and look for the language option. If the international firmware is available for your model, flash it from miwifi.com for full English support.

3. Forgot admin password. There is no recovery option. Factory reset the router by holding the reset button for 10 seconds. After rebooting, the setup wizard runs again and you set a new password. All previous settings are lost.

4. “Network error” in Mi WiFi app. The app requires your phone to be on the Xiaomi router’s Wi-Fi network. If your phone auto-connected to a different network, switch manually. Also ensure the app has local network permissions enabled in your phone’s settings.

5. Router works but admin panel is slow. Xiaomi routers allocate limited resources to the web server. If many devices are connected and active, the admin panel response time degrades. Try accessing it during off-peak hours, or use a wired Ethernet connection for faster panel response.

This IP vs Other Gateways

192.168.31.1 is one of several brand-exclusive gateways. Like MikroTik at 192.168.88.1 and Fritz!Box at 192.168.178.1, Xiaomi owns this subnet entirely. The 192.168.1.1 address is shared by dozens of brands, but 192.168.31.1 means Xiaomi every time.

The no-default-password approach is more secure than what most other gateways offer. Routers at 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 often ship with admin/admin, creating a security risk. Xiaomi forces password creation before the router becomes operational.

The MiWiFi ecosystem is app-centric. Xiaomi treats the web panel as secondary to the Mi WiFi app. The WAN connection is configured automatically, with the router detecting PPPoE or DHCP without manual input. The LAN side serves local clients on the .31.x subnet, which avoids conflicts with ISP gateways at 192.168.1.1.
